Kev is a DJ with a heavy focus on funk, eclectic rhythms and breaks. A breaker first, his inspiration to becoming a DJ was found in high energy, feel good sounds that lifted his spirit on the dance floor.

Sound Anthropology

Formed by Ayana Homma (Jazzy Sport London), Sound Anthropology is a meeting point of spiritual jazz infused with global and electronic influences.

Ayana draws inspiration from both Japanese Shintō ideologies and global sounds. Drawing from her original works and Japanese folk tunes, the band has together expanded an immersive musical vision that encompasses Rhythm, Raga, Tala and Maqam. With Ayana on Voice, Tommy Khosla on Sitar, Vishnu Vijayan on Tabla, Mohammad Resyad on Oud & Guitar, and Alex Ryder on Bass - the musicians aim to let the music the talking whilst grooving with each other and the audience.

DJ Himitsu producer and DJ from Tokyo fresh on the heels of his debut vinyl release on Australia’s Lunatic Music (LM002). Also now based in London working at the Japanese record specialists Vinyl Delivery Service.

Hope Bullet a.k.a Rankin Jin, is from Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture in Japan. He masters in creating his own atmosphere the moment the needle drops, with a blend of music spanning from Dancehall Reggae to Roots Reggae.

Mari*

We are very excited to share our March ( 三月) Voices Radio show with a London-based Japanese
radio producer/DJ and music selector: Mari*.

She’s produced countless music programmes on many radio stations and platform around the world. She kept her presence behind the scene but her knowledge of music and unique taste and personality was revealed through a cult daily morning show called Morning Mari on Gilles Peterson’s online radio platform Worldwide FM. She recently became a team member of Gondwana Records and keeps herself busy working with quality music and being a mom to her daughter Maika.

We are very excited to share our November ( 十一月) Balamii show with Taniya Hashimoto from JSL and No Nations.

He started DJing at Music bar Tangle in Shibuya and moved to London in 2022 to explore music worldwide. He is a founder of No Nation which is an Art Jazz collective based in Tokyo and a member of Jazzy Sport London.

JUDDY NAKANO

We are very excited to share our October (十月) Balamii show with a London-based DJ:Juddy Nakano from Vinyl Youth.

Juddy Nakano is DJ and a member of Vinyl Youth Which is a new generation DJ crew that has emerged in the Tokyo club scene. Recently they gave a successful stage at Rainbow Disco Club .

Juddy is playing a large range of Dance styles from Disco, Italo, Cosmic, Balearic to Ethnic, Acid, Slow dance, Prog or New wave to Hi-NRG, Early dance.

COURTNEY BAILEY

We are very excited to share our September ( 九月) Balamii show with a Tokyo-based DJ: Courtney Bailey from Hole and holland.

Courtney Bailey is a Japanese party organizer, DJ, producer, and model.
And she released her own EP “Soleil”, alongside her label Hole and Holland. The self made EP attracted attention from DJ/producer Tornado Holland who featured the EP on HOR Berlin.

SHUN145

We are very excited to share our August ( 八月) Balamii show with a Kyoto-based DJ : SHUN 145 from Jazzy Sport Kyoto.

He has selected some contemporary jazz electronic music that incorporates various musical elements.

Shun is a record buyer for the Jazzy Sport Kyoto record shop. Kyoto is the ancient capital of Japan and is known for its still remaining traditional atmosphere. While the history remain on the ground, strong, it also holds a deep music scene underground. There, Shun organizes numerous dance parties mainly at Kyoto Metro and DNA Paradise. He develops an original dance floor that grooves to a wide range of music from house, techno, jazz, world music and post-punk.

During the day, you can spot Shun at the Jazzy Sport Kyoto shop by the Kamogawa river and at night catch him in between the music.

YABE TADASHI

We are very excited to share our July @balamii show with the Japanese legend DJ: Yabe Tadashi (United Future Organization).

He has put together “Yabe Tadashi’s jazz samurai mix” with his unique worldview in music and sound! Selecting free jazz and experimental music including his past live show: Out Of Place(Live in 2009) by Yamashita Yosuke, Yabe Tadashi & Koyo, he shares his story with us!

Yabe Tadashi is one of the leading DJs in the Tokyo club scene since the late 80's, both in name and reality. His work as a music composer for film and stage has been broad and international, and his many original works under the name of United Future Organization (UFO) have been highly acclaimed around the world, further deepening his influence as an artist.

NINA YAMADA

For the first monthly Balamii show, Nina Yamada from Jazzy Sport London curated two hours of vinyls she collected while traveling in Europe, featuring selections from Cuba, Ghana, Japan, and more.

Listen back to hear two newly released tunes by Japanese singer-songwriter Ume and producer Madkosmos.

Nina was selecting jazz with a focus on percussion for the first half.
